    URI cafeteria recognized for excellence

South Kingstown, R.I. (AP) — College cafeteria food isn't as bad as you might think -- at least at the University of Rhode Island.

URI's dining service is celebrating a bronze medal in a national contest of college dining services.

The school's Hope Commons dining facility won the Loyal E. Horton Dining Award on Saturday from the National Association of College and University Food Services. It was recognized in the large school category.

URI says one aspect of its service that it is particularly proud of is its sustainability. It sells waste vegetable oil to Newport Biodiesel for conversion to a biofuel, and buys food from local vendors, among other initiatives.
