Local man charged in Norwich convenience store robbery

Norwich — Police arrested a local man early Saturday night after they say he robbed a convenience store on Central Avenue with a knife.

Police said they responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Best Mart at 275 Central Avenue at 6:09 p.m.

They said an individual armed with a knife grabbed the store clerk and demanded money. The person then grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and fled. No one was injured.

A short time later police arrested Rodney Hagins, 40, of 123 West Thames Street, Apt. B, and charged him with first-degree robbery and sixth-degree larceny.

Hagins is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court Monday morning.
