Ledyard — The Town Council unanimously elected Councilor Linda Davis as chairman at its regular meeting Wednesday night.

Davis will replaced Sean Sullivan, who earlier this month accepted a seat on the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, a position with the U.S. Department of Energy. Sullivan was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and will begin his duties in Washington, D.C., shortly after Labor Day.

Sullivan had been appointed Town Council chairman in December. His last day on the council was Aug. 17.

Davis has served on the Town Council for seven years. She was previously on the Board of Education on and off for 10 years and served as chairman in her last term there for two years. She is a real estate broker in town.

The recommendation for Sullivan's seat on the council, who must also be a Republican, will come from the Republican Town Committee sometime over the next few weeks.

Also during Wednesday's meeting, Mayoral Assistant Mark Bancroft presented letters of commendation on behalf of Mayor John Rodolico, who is on vacation, to four police officers for their life-saving actions in March.

Officers Alan Muench and Scott Peterson of the Ledyard Police Department, state trooper Gary Butters, and Resident State Trooper Sgt. James Gilman helped to save the life of 17-year-old Kylee J. Taylor of 43 Meetinghouse Lane when Taylor was partially ejected and trapped underneath her car. The officers were able to lift the car off Taylor and remove her so she could be taken to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital for treatment.

"I personally appreciate you being out there and taking care of us," Bancroft said.
