Finishing Touches on Middle Beach Road
Workers pour and screed the town’s new concrete sidewalk along Middle beach Road. The sidewalk is one of the finishing touches an 800-foot reconstruction of Middle Beach Road, a casualty of last year’s Tropical Storm Irene.
Although the town made temporary repairs last year, permanent repairs were necessary. The roadway and sidewalks are being replaced between Tuxis Road and Park Avenue at a cost of $314,880. A new railing system will cost $230,000. The project is also expected to receive a 75 percent FEMA reimbursement.
Next on the list of Irene repairs: The Board of Selectmen has called a special town meeting for Thursday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. at the Town Campus to consider a $500,000 special appropriation request to cover the costs associated with the rehabilitation of both the East Wharf and West Wharf damages from Irene.
