Ledyard restaurant shutdown after E. coli is detected

Ledyard - Ming Moon Chinese Restaurant was ordered closed at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday after the bacteria E. coli was detected during a routine water sample collection, according to Baker Salsbury, director of health for Ledge Light Health District.

Ming Moon is located at 756 Colonel Ledyard Highway. The well that supplies neighbor restaurant Subway was found to have elevated levels of coliform, which the Connecticut Environmental Health Association says on its website are usually present in water contaminated by human or animal waste. Coliform bacteria are used as indicator organisms in the testing of drinking water quality.

Salsbury said Subway has not been shut down, but Ledge Light has advised the restaurant to restrict water use, boiling water or using bottled water until further water samples are taken.
