Stonington — The Stonington Free Library will hold a four-part series beginning Oct. 25  to help people understand the role of Probate Court, what constitutes an estate and the importance of planning for the transition of personal responsibilities, financial assets and liabilities.

The series is cosponsored by The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Probate District, the Estate and Tax Planning Council of Southeast Connecticut, Dime Bank, Chelsea Groton Financial Services and Washington Trust.  The sessions are  intended to help participants gain an understanding of issues to be discussed with family and estate planning professionals.

The first session will be at the library on Oct. 25 from 6:30 to 8:00pm. The session will feature three area probate judges, Nicholas Kepple of the Southeastern District, Mathew Greene from New London/Waterford and Jeffrey McNamara of the Niantic Regional Court, along with the Southeastern Court’s Chief Clerk, Carolyn Bessette, who together have more than 50 years of probate court experience to share with attendees.  

Other session will be held Nov. 29, The Basics of Estate Planning; Jan. 15,  Estate Taxation and the Use of Trusts and Feb. 12, a wrap up session. For more information call the library at (860) 535-0268.
