    Coalition Cups at Parthenon

Branford Coalition to Prevent Underage Drinking is partnering with Parthenon Diner and Restaurant to spread the word about talking to kids about steering clear of alcohol. The Parthenon is now distributing free "Set the Rules" travel mugs (one per family, while they last) filled with important prevention tips for families to share with kids, and a gift from the coalition. The mugs are provided as part of a Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services grant and represent Connecticut's Set the Rules initiative.

Coalition Chair Pat Andriole reports Branford's making progress in keeping kids safe and alcohol-free, by partnering with the school district, community agencies, organizations, and businesses to deter underage drinking. Results from anonymous surveys completed by Branford students (grades 7, 9, 11) show a change for the better in the average age when youngsters first try alcohol; a recent alcohol compliance check by state and local enforcement found 100 percent of Branford stores and restaurants checked would not sell alcohol to underage recipients. Shown here ready to distribute some free mugs at the Parthenon (374 East Main Street, Branford) are (from left): Parthenon owner John Sousoulas, coalition members Kevin McDonough and Dale Izzo, coalition chair Pat Andriole, and coalition member Jeff Kikosicki.
