Courtney-Formica debate canceled
Enfield -- Tonight's debate at Enfield High School between the two major candidates running in the 2nd Congressional District has been cancelled, school officials said this morning.
U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, a Democrat seeking a fourth term, was set to debate Paul Formica, his Republican challenger and the first selectman of East Lyme. Both candidates have been busy in the last several days helping people cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
The debate was sponsored by the members of the school's student body. Courtney and Formica were also scheduled for a one-on-one debate Monday that was postponed because of the hurricane. That debate was to be hosted by The Day and others at Palmer Auditorium at Connecticut College.
Voters will decide on Tuesday who will represent the state's largest geographic district. Colin Bennett, the Green Party candidate, and Dan Reale, the Libertarian candidate, will also be on the ballot.
