    Hull Library Hosting NaNoWriMo

CLINTON - Looking for a quiet place to write your next best novel? Head to the Henry Carter Hull Library throughout the month of November for the National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo.

"This is the first time we've done it, [though] NaNoWriMo is a world-wide thing. There are a number of other locations around the shoreline and in Connecticut that are participating and we thought we'd open our doors," said Programming Librarian David Boudinot. "Writers can come in and take advantage of the peace and quiet of the library and write some fiction."

NaNoWriMo is a writing challenge in which participants are encouraged to write a 50,000-word novel (approximately 175 pages) before December begins. Launching in 1999, the month-long writing effort was founded by about 20 freelance writers. Each year, the numbers of participants grow-last year 256,618 people took part in the writing month, according to www.nanowrimo.org.

"People can come in to the library like they normally do or people can come in and just write. We are going to have weekly meet-ups or workshops where writers can get together and work for a couple hours and also hear from some people who participated in NaNoWriMo and also some local authors," Boudinot said. "There are going to be a couple speakers- amateur local authors that we are still lining up who pick a challenge every year-and they'll be able to share some of their work and how they go about it, but the majority of the time will be giving people plenty of space to write."

Upcoming workshops are on Tuesday, Nov. 13; Monday,

Nov. 19; and Thursday, Nov. 29. All meetings will begin at 6 p.m. At the last meeting, participants will get together and share what they have completed.

Boudinot is thrilled for the library to support the national writing month and, due to the large number of residents participating in other writing workshops at the library, he's anticipating a large group taking part in NaNoWriMo.

"We're already getting a little bit of buzz about it, so I think it's going to be really fun," said Boudinot.

Registration is not needed-simply show up ready to write!
