UConn Extension taking Master Gardener program applications

The University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension System is now accepting applications for its Master Gardener Program for 2013.

Due to Hurricane Sandy, the postmarked deadline for applications has been extended to Nov. 16.

The program provides horticultural training to those who want to share knowledge with the public through community volunteerism, and wish to expand their gardening interests.

The intensive program consists of 14 class sessions (one full day per week) beginning Jan. 3. It includes more than 100 hours of classroom training and 60 hours of volunteer service. Individuals successfully completing the program will receive University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension Master Gardener certification. The charge is $415. Partial scholarships may be available, based on demonstrated financial need.

Classes will take place in West Hartford, Brooklyn, Haddam, Bethel and Stamford.

For information or an application, visit: http://www.ladybug.uconn.edu/ or call the New London County Extension Center in Norwich at (860) 885-2823.
