Public hearing scheduled Dec. 3 for Stonington's conservation and development meeting

The 2014 Plan of Conservation and Development Implementation Subcommittee will hold an initial public input meeting on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in the high school commons as it prepares to update the plan.

The meeting had originally been scheduled for Oct. 29 but was postponed because of Hurricane Sandy.

The meeting will be one of a series the subcommittee plans to hold over the next two years in preparation for the adoption of the update by the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The plan serves as a guide on how the town should be developed over the next decade and state law requires an update every 10 years. The plan covers areas such as economic development, land use, open space and housing.

The subcommittee also plans to make a questionnaire available on the town's website and as a handout so residents can provide input to the subcommittee.

In announcing the meeting, the subcommittee said the topics it will discuss at the forum are what does the town want to protect, how does it want to grow and what services should it provide.

Residents can submit written comment on the plan at any time to the 2014 POCD Subcommittee, care of the Planning Department, 152 Elm St., Stonington, 06378.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
