    Norwich NAACP hosts King Day events

    Norwich – The Norwich branch of the NAACP will hold its annual Martin Luther King Day celebrations Friday and Monday with the theme “Pursuing Justice, Pursuing Peace.”

    On Friday, the NAACP branch will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon at 12:30 p.m. at the Norwich Free Academy cafeteria. Keynote speaker will be Norwich Free Academy Diversity Director Leo Butler. The annual Robertsine Duncan Memorial Award will be given to New London state Rep. Ernest Hewett, D-New London, for his efforts to secure jobs for youth and his work with the Boys and Girls Club.

    Admission to the luncheon is a donation of $25 for adults, $15 for students.

    On Monday, the Norwich NAACP branch will hold its annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday March and Program starting at 1:45 p.m. at City Hall. After brief remarks, participants will march to the Evans Memorial AME Zion Church at 2 McKinley Ave., where the annual Freedom Service will begin at 2 p.m. Hewett will be the keynote speaker.
