Old Lyme to hold annual town meeting

Old Lyme — Three voting items are on the agenda for the annual town meeting, at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Town Hall.

One item up for voting approval is the purchase of new radio equipment for the Mile Creek Tower, capped at $32,500, which would allow police, fire, EMS, public works and other departments to communicate with each other.

The goal of the new equipment is to establish one townwide communication system rather than operate off several different systems, according to Officer Thomas Heinssen of the Old Lyme Police Department. Town officials first identified the need for an updated system, in which different agencies could communicate with each other, after Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.

The Boards of Finance and Selectmen have both recommended the system for approval.

At the meeting, voters will also elect a successor to Scott A. Chester for the Board of Assessment Appeals for a term to expire in November.

The Board of Finance's Annual Town Report for the 2011-12 fiscal year is also up for approval.

In addition, town officials will announce the Board of Selectmen's 2012 Citizen of the Year.
