Twenty-nine year old Jason Barberi, who held up a series of area convenience stores with his father in November 2011, was sentenced today to ten years in prison.

His father, 52-year-old Frederick Barberi, faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced in April.

Police said the pair went on a six-day robbery spree, holding up stores each day beginning Nov. 5, 2011. The son’s weapon of choice was a wooden bat, according to court testimony. The father used a box cutter or a knife.

Jason Barberi pleaded guilty to three of the robberies under a plea agreement worked out by his attorney, Anthony Basilica, and prosecutor David J. Smith.

He pleaded guilty to robbing the Henny Penny in Pawcatuck of $250 on Nov. 5, 2011. Smith said Barberi told the clerk, “Give me the money or I’ll kill you.”

Barberi pleaded guilty also to robbing the Preston Mobil on Nov. 6, taking between $600 and $700. Finally, he pleaded guilty to holding up the Cumberland Farms in Baltic on Nov. 10, 2011, stealing $200 in cash and multiple cartons of cigarettes.

The father and son were arrested Nov. 11, 2011, after police learned they used a family member’s car as a getaway vehicle.
