Stonington Historical Society announces Old Lighthouse Museum hours

Stonington — The Stonington Historical Society has announced that the Old Lighthouse Museum at 7 Water Street in the borough will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Wednesdays from May 2 through Oct. 29.

New exhibits include “Stonington Pride: the Battle of August 1814,” which showcases some of the society’s artifacts connected to town’s role in the War of 1812. The artifacts include a cannon ball embedded in hearthstone of a borough home, a spent Congreve rocket that was fired into the village, a walking cane made from a cannon and Olive Spicer’s sugar bowl and creamer carried away when she fled during the Battle of Stonington in 1814.

Admission, which includes a free pass to the Capt. Palmer House, is $9 for adults, $6 for children under 18, with a $25-maximum for parents with children. Special rates are offered to seniors and active duty military. There is two for one admission on Tuesdays.
