Stonington clinic to offer low cost rabies vaccinations for dogs, cats

Stonington — The town will hold a low cost rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the police department.

The fee is $20 cash. All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

State law requires that all dogs and cats older than 3 months must be vaccinated. Written proof of a prior vaccination is required for a three-year certificate. Dogs 3 months old or those of any age that have not been vaccinated before must receive a one-year vaccination.

Dog licenses also will be issued at the clinic. Dog licenses must be purchased for all dogs 6 months or older by the end of June at a cost of $8 for a neutered or spayed dog and $19 for all other dogs. After June 30, there will be a late charge imposed of $1 per month for each month that a dog is not licensed.

The low-cost vaccinations are sponsored by the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association. For more information call the Town Clerk’s office at (860) 535-5060.
