$5,000 grows to $50,000 for Norwich woman with instant lottery ticket

Susan Weber of Norwich was very excited when she found nine complete words on her CT Lottery $5 "Super Cashword 16" instant ticket for a $5,000 prize win, but when she went to claim her winnings, she learned her ticket had 10 words and was a $50,000 top prize winner.

"I just stood there in shock looking at him," Weber told Connecticut Lottery officials. "I called my husband to tell him. He didn't believe me. Then I programmed the Connecticut Lottery's address in my GPS and came right on in."

Weber, who has worked at the College Mart Flea Market snack bar in Jewett City for the past 15 years, accepted a check at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill for $34,151 – the value after taxes.

She plans to pay off her car and some bills and use some of the money for Christmas presents for her nine grandchildren and put the rest in savings.

For selling Weber her top prize winning ticket, Shop Rite of Norwich at 634 W. Main Street will receive a $500 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
