Griswold first selectman subject of police probe

Griswold — Griswold's first selectman says he's the subject of a State Police investigation into allegations of bribery.

The Bulletin reports (http://bit.ly/GCtUUV) that First Selectman Phil Anthony, a Democrat seeking re-election in November, says he believes the allegations are politically motivated.

The probe involves a demolition contractor who claims Anthony solicited a bribe in return for a lower permit fee to demolish property.

Anthony said he asked the assessor to look into lowering the fee because revaluation had been pushed back a month.

Donald Hill, a Republican selectman seeking re-election, said he took statements from town employees and found the complaint to be credible. He said he forwarded the statements and materials to the FBI.

The state attorney's office would not comment.

Anthony said Thursday he was interviewed by a state trooper.
