Connecticut Water warns customers of people posing as employees

Connecticut Water has said it has recently received reports of people posing as water company employees to gain access to homes in areas it serves.

In a news release, the company said it is encouraging homeowners to ask for a photo ID before allowing anyone identifying themselves as a water company employee to enter their home. In southeastern Connecticut, Connecticut Water serves Griswold, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Plainfield, Stonington and Voluntown.

All Connecticut Water employees carry photo identification and drive vehicles marked with the company logo. Also, Connecticut Water encourages customers who are unsure or have concerns, especially when the appointment is unscheduled, to call the 24-hour emergency phone number at (800) 286-5700 for verification.

Connecticut Water customers are advised to not allow anyone posing as a water company employee who cannot produce a Connecticut Water photo ID from entering their home, and to promptly notify police.
