Funding approved for New London police vehicle cameras

New London - The City Council this week approved a $20,000 appropriation from state Local Capital Improvement Program funding to help pay for the repair and replacement of cameras and associated equipment for police vehicles.

The $20,000 is in addition to the $50,000 approved by the council in November.

New London Police Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said the department has six vehicles with intermittent camera issues that need repair or replacement and two other vehicles used on patrol with no cameras. The total cost for the upgrades is $69,000, he said.
