Connecticut College polo team headed to championship with new acting head coach

New London — In the wake of the arrest and subsequent suspension of Connecticut College head water polo coach JJ Addison, the school has named assistant coach Ryan Pryor as acting head coach for this weekend’s Division III women’s water polo championship.

Pryor, a former All-American for the University of Michigan Club Team, has been the assistant water polo coach since 2011.

Addison, 36, was placed on administrative leave following his arrest by New London police on Tuesday after police said they saw him in what appeared to be a narcotics transaction in the area of 66 Jay St. Police said Addison was pulled over and found to be in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine and several oxycodone pills.

The women’s water polo team, with a record of 12-7 overall, is seeded No. 1 in this weekend’s Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference championship hosted by Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. The women’s team won the championship last year.
