    Running for a cause in New London

    New London — Jason Taggart of Gales Ferry hugged his son Anthony, 6, as they cross the finish line together in the Winthrop STEM Elementary Magnet School's 5K Challenge Walk-Run at the school in New London Saturday. Taggart carried Anthony on his shoulders for the final mile of the race.

    The 5K Challenge led participants on a course crossing the northern part of the city and was organized as a benefit for the Winthrop STEM Magnet PTO, Inc., which funds educational field trips, supplemental educational support for teachers, staff and families, as well as school supplies.
