Waterford will allow marijuana dispensaries, not growers

Waterford – The Planning and Zoning Commission has amended the town zoning regulations so they allow for marijuana dispensaries, but bar production facilities.

The commission approved the new sections to town zoning regulations last month, and the new regulations went into effect Sunday. This is the first time the town has addressed state laws that have legalized medical marijuana, according to planner Mark Wujtewicz.

According to the new regulations, any marijuana dispensary must not be located within 1,500 feet of the property line of any school, church, public place of worship, library, or any establishment that holds a liquor license. Dispensaries must not be any closer than 500 feet from a property line or residential zone district boundary line.

Wujtewicz said no one has applied to build a marijuana dispensary in Waterford.
