Hearing on L+M-Yale-New Haven affiliation on Monday

New London — Officials from both Lawrence + Memorial Healthcare and the Yale-New Haven Health System will give testimony on Monday at a hearing on the proposed affiliation of the two hospital networks.

The public will also have a chance to comment on the application submitted to state regulators by L+M and Yale-New Haven, Mike O’Farrell, spokesman for L+M, said Thursday. The hearing will take place at 3 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 35 Gov. Winthrop Boulevard.

The hearing is being conducted by the state Office of Health Care Access, the agency that is considering the application.

In addition to the hospital affiliation, OHCA will also hear testimony at the hearing about a related application from L+M to transfer ownership of its affiliated physician group, L+M Medical Group, to Northeast Medical Group, Yale-New Haven’s physician organization.

Both applications were submitted to OHCA in October. Over the following months, both hospitals submitted additional information in response to requests from OHCA. The applications were deemed complete by OHCA on May 10.

While the regulatory process is proceeding, OHCA will not be able to render a decision on the affiliation at least until early next year.

Last February, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy issued a moratorium on new hospital affiliations while a task force completes a review and overhaul of the regulatory process.
