STEM scholarships from Pfizer, workforce board honor students
The Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board and Pfizer Inc. Senior Director Armelde Pitre honored three area students this month with the first ever EWIB-Pitre STEM Leadership Scholarship.
Kayla Mathiowetz, a student at Waterford High School, Samantha Sprecace, a student at the Science & Technology Magnet High School in New London, and Lily Zhong, a student at East Lyme High School, each received a $1,000 scholarship for their academic achievements, community involvement and leadership.
The scholarship targets college-bound seniors pursuing degrees in the STEM fields, as employers often have a difficult time finding qualified workers with the requisite science and math backgrounds.
The Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board serves 41 towns and oversees public investments in employment on training strategies.
