Allen Chappell of Stonington has been awarded the $1,500 Anna Coit Memorial Scholarship by the North Stonington Garden Club. For the last eight years, Chappell has worked in landscaping and volunteered for the Groton Open Space Association to help clean up trails and nature preserves. He studied landscaping and environmental science for his senior project and will be attending Unity College in Maine to study conservation law enforcement and forestry.

The North Stonington Garden Club grants the Anna Coit Memorial Scholarship to one student pursuing higher education in agriculture, conservation, plant science or other related field. Students must be residents of North Stonington or sponsored by a member of the club.
