Westerly — The Ocean Community YMCA will host its annual Leadership Recognition Breakfast at 8 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at the Ocean House, at which time it will honor three people who embody the organization’s key areas of focus: youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Tickets to the event are $60 per person.

This year’s recipients are automobile dealer Robert Valenti, who serves on the YMCA’s board of directors and is the chairman of the Property Committee. He has been instrumental in raising $4.3 million for the Mystic branches capital campaign and is the co-chairman of the Mystic Golf Classic Committee, which raised $40,000 this year. He is very active in numerous other community organizations.

The other recipients are Thomas and Candy Sanford, who played key roles in raising $4.3 million for the Mystic YMCA’s Capital Campaign, which Tom Sanford co-chairs. They have been very involved in the rowing program at the Mystic branch and the couple is very involved at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Stonington.

The Sanfords are among six individuals or couples who donated a total of $300,000 toward a challenge grant that raised an additional $400,000 toward the $7.2 million renovation of the Mystic branch, which is now underway.
