Storm to bring wintry mix to region

The latest storm to hit southeastern Connecticut is expected to bring a wintry mix Tuesday night and Wednesday, with snow overnight before switching to rain Wednesday morning.

Overall, the greater New London area and the Connecticut shoreline is expected to get 1-3 inches of snow before it starts raining, according to Gary Lessor, meteorologist and assistant director with The Weather Center at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

"Originally the idea was the storm was going to pass out to sea and we would be far enough to the west that the cold air would be locked in place and it would be all snow," he said. "But now it appears though the storm will be going over Cape Cod, and that's just too far west for Groton, New London area to be all snow."

Lessor said it's a difficult forecast because it will depend on how far west the storm trends and how quickly the warmer air moves in. Inland Connecticut is expected to get between 2 and 5 inches of snow.
