East Lyme Board of Selectmen unanimously approves budget
East Lyme — The Board of Selectmen on Wednesday unanimously approved a budget for 2018-19 with no changes to the bottom line from the budget proposed last month by First Selectman Mark Nickerson, he said Thursday.
Nickerson will next present the Board of Finance with the budget proposal at its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at Town Hall.
The proposed budget, including general government, debt service and capital spending, stands at $24.259 million and represents a zero percent increase over the current fiscal year budget. Together with the Board of Education's budget of $47.774 million, a 2.59 percent increase, the total budget for 2018-19 is $72.033 million, or 1.7 percent more than the current spending plan.
The finance board has scheduled a series of meetings to review the budget by department, starting with the Board of Education on March 19. The board then is slated to begin budget deliberations on April 9.

A public hearing on the budget will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 30, at the East Lyme High School auditorium, followed by a special Board of Finance meeting in the INTV Room. A townwide referendum on the budget will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 24 at the East Lyme Community Center.
