East Lyme pool closed due to malfunction in HVAC system

East Lyme — The pool at the East Lyme Aquatic & Fitness Center was closed Monday due to a malfunction in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Newton said an intake fan stopped running over the weekend. The system is partially operational, expelling exhaust, but not taking in air.

He said he expects the system will be fully operational within the next couple of days.

"We’re working to rectify the issue and hopefully will have it open for patrons in the next day or two," Newton said.

Information on the pool's opening will be posted on the center's website at: http://www.eastlymeaquatics.com.

The school district is planning to install a new dehumidification system this summer, Newton said. The pool will be closed in July and August for the installation, he said. The project costs $367,000, with $100,000 covered by pool revenue and $267,000 through the town's capital improvement plan, he said.
