Several spring events planned in Norwich

Norwich — Several events will be held at Mohegan Park and at a city school this spring, starting Sunday, hosted by various city and regional entities and the Mohegan Park Improvements and Development Advisory Committee.

All events are free and open to the public, and there is no park admission or parking fee.

On Sunday, Earth Day, volunteers are asked to gather at the park center to do a spring cleanup of the park and trails from noon to 4 p.m. Groups and families are encouraged to select an area of the park to clean. Participants should bring their own rakes and gloves.

On Friday, April 27, Arbor Day, Norwich tree wardens will give a presentation on trees at the John Moriarty Environmental Magnet School. The time for the presentation is not yet set. Call the school office at (860) 823-4206. All visitors must sign in at the school office.

On Friday, May 11, Public Garden Day, people are invited to visit the Norwich Rose Garden to view the early blooming roses. A return trip on Sunday, June 24, would show the changes at the Rose Garden, with more roses in bloom.

National Trails Day on Saturday, June 2, has been extended through Sunday, June 10. Visitors are encouraged to try the multiple maintained and unmaintained trails through the 400-acre park. Walk leaders are encouraged to organize guided walks along the trails, Mohegan Park committee Chairwoman Beryl Fishbone said.

The Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resources Recovery Authority will present a program on composting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, for National Gardening Exercise Day.

Mohegan Park is open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Picnic areas are available.
