Two Day journalists recognized with regional awards

Editorial Page Editor Paul Choiniere and Director of Multimedia Peter Huoppi recently were presented NESNEs, awards that recognize excellence in journalistic achievement in New England.

Choiniere won in the opinion category for an editorial, "Simmons goes Haberek," which was critical of Stonington First Selectman Rob Simmons' refusal to release a consultant's report. Huoppi's winning entry was a video of the New London-Norwich Free Academy Thanksgiving Day football game.

The awards were presented by the New England Society of News Editors at an April 19 ceremony at the Boston Globe.
