Second East Lyme redistricting forum to be held on Monday

East Lyme — The Board of Education will hold at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21, in the East Lyme High School auditorium, a second community forum on the proposed redistricting of the elementary schools.

Milone & MacBroom, the firm hired by the school board to study redistricting, presented options for the 2019-20 school year to parents during the first forum held in April.

The Monday forum is expected to include the presentation of a revised version of Option 4A. According to minutes from the May 7 Board of Education Committee of the Whole meeting, that option has been revised to include within the Lillie B. Haynes School boundary "the properties along the north side of Boston Post Road from Scott Road to the town line including Joshua Valley Road, Stones Ranch Road and Esther Pond." It also has been revised to include within the Lillie B. Haynes boundary "a small area of Pennsylvania Avenue near Sleepy Hollow Road" that doesn't impact any current students enrolled in the district.

The presentation is slated to provide information on preparing for the transition, followed by a question and answer session.

The school board then will meet at 7 p.m. Monday to discuss and potentially choose a redistricting option, according to a letter from Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey R. Newton to East Lyme parents and guardians.

More information is available on the school district's redistricting website, bit.ly/ELRedistricting.
