    Salem students recognized by coalition

Several students at Salem School were among those recognized at the second annual Catalyst Challenge Awards, hosted by the Community Coalition for Children. The ceremony was held May 30 at the Submarine Force Library and Museum in Groton.

Emily D’Aiuto, Anna Limburg, Rachel Limburg and Katie Teixeira took first place at the middle school level for their video “Everything Changed.” The video portrayed the destructive power of jealousy in friendship and highlighted the need for everyone to be valued for who they are.

Another Salem School team made of Hannah Bergeron, Mary Haburay, Ava Mauri and Isabel Pazzaligia created a video called “I’m Good At...” to highlight student talents.

The final Salem team, Jordyn Silveira and Katie Monarca, coordinated a Writer’s Block Ink visit to their school. The pair were inspired by the New London-based community group’s production at the CCC conference and brought them to Salem for an assembly on exclusion and rumors.

Norwich Free Academy students Alex Wicken and Jenica Warren and Norwich Technical High School students Emily Zegarzewski and Molly Smith placed in the high school category.

The CCC will host its next intergenerational conference, “Treat Yourself to a Healthy Life!”, on Oct. 31 at Mitchell College. For more information, visit communitycoalitionforchildren.org.
