Three New London County students were recently recognized in Hartford for their work in the community and their schools.

Erin Patten of Waterford, Kevin Ruiz of New London and Emma Sked of Old Lyme received $1,000 Leaders and Achievers scholarships, sponsored by Comcast in honor of the community service legacy of company founder Ralph Roberts.

Ruiz also received the $9,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship, the only recipient out of the 44 statewide recipients of the Leaders and Achievers Scholarship. He was recognized for his leadership and dedication to New London High School.

“It is wonderful to see these students recognized for their hard work and commitment to education and community,” State Sen. Paul Formica, R-East Lyme, said in a release. “I know they have very bright futures ahead of them and I am glad to see these well-deserved scholarships help them further their education.”
