    Let’s Go: ‘Positively Negative’

    Donna Mazzone’s watercolor titled “Iris.”

The July show at Artists’ Cooperative Gallery in Westerly will feature the work of watercolorist Donna Mazzone and fabric artist, sculptor and painter Madeline Beaudry.

Opening reception will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, featuring wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Mazzone, a plein air watercolor artist, finds her inspiration traveling and painting along the back roads of New England, especially in Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Beaudry, for this exhibit, chose to concentrate on the many aspects of time, specifically time throughout the day, creating a show-within-a-show called “A Book of Hours.”

The gallery theme next month at 7 Canal St. will be “Positively Negative” — Shape and Space, in recognition that what the visual artist chooses to omit or merely suggest is as important to any composition as what is presented in detail.

Gallery members are also busy preparing the annual Art Heist Saturday, Aug. 11, at Lamphear Livery in Watch Hill, an event that allows ticket holders the right to ‘heist’ one work of art valued at $200 or more.

Works donated by ACGOW members to the Art Heist are now on display at the gallery.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call (401) 596-2221 or visit westerlyarts.com for information.
