Preston Summer Fest to be held Monday

Preston — The Parks and Recreation Department will hold a Summer Fest on Monday at Preston Community Park, 13 Route 117, with live music, food, a farmers market, an outdoor movie and a cow patty bingo fundraiser to support park improvements.

The Summer Fest will begin at 6 p.m. with music by Majestic Fuzz, and conclude with the showing of the movie “Mighty Ducks” at dusk.

Admission is free to all events, and food will be for sale by Jimmie’s Ice Cream Shoppe and a pig roast by Broad Brook Acres for $8 roast pork sandwiches.

The fundraiser cow patty bingo will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 each for the chance to win a $250 cash prize. A cow provided by Preston Farms dairy farm will be let loose on the grid-marked field at the park. Where the cow’s first patty drops will determine the winner. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time at the town website, www.preston-ct.org, or at Jimmie’s Ice Cream Shoppe, 1 Mathewson Mill Road, Preston.

Parks and Recreation Director Amy Brosnan said all proceeds from the cow patty bingo will benefit park improvement projects. Facilities at the 20-year-old park are starting to show wear, she said. The basketball and tennis courts must be repaved, and the playground must be upgraded.
