    Gathering for a solemn occasion

Adam Aboudawd celebrates with his cousin Eyad Alawi, 2, as members of the Islamic Center of New London gather for a prayer to celebrate Eid al-Adha on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Washington Park in Groton. The holiday, also referred to as the Festival of Sacrifice, honors the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God's command. It is the second of two Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide every year. (Sarah Gordon/The Day)
