Connecticut chapter of suicide prevention agency to host Niantic fundraising walk

The Connecticut chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will host a walk to support the association's work.

Volunteers are adding East Lyme to the list of more than 500 communities participating in Out of the Darkness walks across the country on Saturday to raise money to support the education and prevention programs aimed at reducing the frequency of suicide in the U.S.

"Our ultimate goal is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide," said Ann Irr Dagle, a member of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's state chapter and the co-founder of The Brian Dagle Foundation. Last year, the walks raised more than $21 million for suicide prevention nationwide. Organizers of the walk in Niantic hope to attract several hundred walkers and raise about $20,000.
