Milling work on Route 156 in East Lyme scheduled to begin Friday

East Lyme — The state Department of Transportation said it is planning a milling and resurfacing project on 3.63 miles of Route 156, with the first segment of the milling work scheduled for the daytime hours Friday.

The second portion of the roadway milling is scheduled to take place from Sunday evening until Thursday morning, according to a news release from DOT.

DOT said it anticipates to then do the resurfacing work during the daytime hours from Monday, Oct. 1, through Friday, Oct. 12. That schedule will include work on Columbus Day.

DOT said in the news release that drivers can expect lane closures on Route 156 from the Rocky Neck Connector to the Niantic River Bridge in East Lyme. Three town police officers, along with signing patterns, will guide drivers through the work zone, the release states.

The daytime work schedule is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the nighttime work schedule is from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The DOT said it may need to revise or extend the work schedule, if there are "weather delays or other unforeseen conditions."

"Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity," the DOT said.
