Norwich Main Street sewer work to cause traffic, parking disruptions Thursday

Norwich — Traffic will be detoured and there will be no on-street parking Thursday on Main Street in the area of Superior Court and Market Street, as Norwich Public Utilities crews conduct an emergency sewer line repair.

Crews will excavate a 15-foot section of damaged sewer line in the vicinity of 110 Main St. and will replace the pipe. Traffic will be diverted off Main Street along Market Street to Water Street heading north. The detour will cut off access to the Main Street entrance to the Main Street parking garage, which can be accessed on Church Street.

Work will begin at 7 a.m. Thursday, and the traffic detour is expected to end by 3:30 p.m. Thursday, but there will be no on-street parking in the construction area throughout the day Thursday, NPU officials said.

NPU spokesman Chris Riley said utility officials were contacting business owners in the area on Wednesday to alert them to the pending work on the “critical project.”
