    New London appoints new director of bilingual education

    New London — The Board of Education has appointed veteran New London educator and administrator Maribel Olivero as the new director of bilingual education, English for speakers of other languages and world languages, the school district announced on Monday.

    Olivero has served New London Public Schools for 18 years, beginning as a bilingual teacher at New London High School. She was later named dean of students at New London High, while still maintaining her teaching role.

    Olivero also served in a variety of roles through the years including dean of students at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School, principal of C.B. Jennings Dual Language and International Elementary Magnet, interim director of international education and dual language, and interim director of school operations for the middle school magnet programs.

    In her new role, Olivero will provide supervision, leadership, and coordination of bilingual education, ESOL, and world language programming for grades pre K-12 across the school district.
