Full scholarships offered for nuclear program at Three Rivers

Norwich — Three Rivers Community College announced that in partnership with Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, operator of Millstone Power Station, it is again offering 16 full-tuition scholarships for the school's nuclear engineering technology program.

For students interested in starting the two-year associate degree program in the fall of 2019, the scholarship application deadline is Feb. 15.

The scholarships cover the cost of books and fees. Recipients also get a $150 monthly stipend during the nine-month academic year, and a 12-week paid internship at Millstone between their first and second years.

The nuclear engineering technology program is designed to prepare students for a job as an entry-level technician, mainly for the commercial nuclear power industry, according to the program website. The courses, which involve both classroom instruction and labs, include introduction to nuclear systems, radiation health safety, atomic and reactor physics, fluid mechanics/thermodynamics and nuclear materials science.
