Northeast Academy principal placed on leave
Groton — The principal of Northeast Academy Arts Magnet Elementary School has been placed on administrative leave as district administrators look into a personnel matter at the school, according to Superintendent Michael Graner.
Graner informed parents in a letter last Thursday but said he could not comment further, as it is a personnel issue.
"I wanted to inform you that a personnel matter has arisen at Northeast Academy, and the issue is being handled by central office administrators," Graner said in the letter to parents and guardians. "While we look into the matter, Mr. (Paul) Esposito will be on administrative leave, and Ms. Val Nelson, the former principal of Charles Barnum Elementary School, will assist (Assistant Principal Stephanie Wheeler). I am confident that Ms. Wheeler and Ms. Nelson will provide the leadership to maintain a positive learning environment for all the children."
Graner told parents he would share more information once the matter is resolved.
Esposito, who has been principal at Northeast Academy since July 2011, has been on leave since Feb. 11, Graner said.
