Nine local veterans received a Connecticut Wartime Service Medal from Connecticut Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs Thomas J. Saadi, New London Mayor Michael Passero and U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal on Wednesday afternoon at New London City Hall.

Current Connecticut residents, or veterans who served in Connecticut, who served in active duty or the National Guard or reserves during a time of war are eligible for the recognition, which was established by the General Assembly in 2005.
