Season opener in Groton

Groton — Robert E. Fitch High School seniors, from left, Ingrid Buckhorn, Nathan Kowalski and Brooke Foley, all 17, enjoy a frozen treat Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, from the Poquonnock Bridge Dairy Queen in the bed of Kowalski's truck.

The DQ opened for the season on Thursday, offering free cones to customers, which the trio missed so they opted to pay for their treats on Friday.

"I'm always up for ice cream," Foley quipped.
