East Lyme — The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Quinebaug Hatchery employees stocked Latimer Brook with trout Thursday.

About 1,200 brown trout, with a handful of brood stock rainbow trout, went into the brook between Chapman Drive, near the Montville town line, and the Latimer Brook Fishway near Interstate 95.

According to Bryan Decker of DEEP, the agency will stock over a half-million catchable-size trout into 260 bodies of water around the state by the end of May. By April 13, opening day, 280,732 nine- to 12-inch trout, 25,550 12- to 16-inch trout and 5,000 trout greater than 16 inches in length will have been stocked.
