The Lyme-Old Lyme High School Math Team was recognized for its 2018-19 season achievements at a banquet for the Greater Middlesex County Math League on March 18.

The team qualified for the state competition, to be held this week at Haddam-Killingworth High School.

The varsity team took first place in the small school division for the sixth year in a row, with Josh Liefield leading the team and Ryan McTigue earning the third highest score for all juniors in the league.

The junior varsity team also took first place among small schools and earned the highest raw score out of all schools in the league.

Connie Pan was recognized as the highest scoring sophomore in the league, and Nikolai Stephens-Zumbaum was recognized as the highest scoring freshman.

Team members include freshmen Nikolai Stephens-Zumbaum, Mary Wholean, Drew St. Louis and Nevin Joshy; sophomores Connie Pan, Juliette Atkinson and Jake Stewart; juniors Ted Wayland, Evan St. Louis, Ryan McTigue and Rachael Larson; and seniors Sarah Hayward, Hannah Morrison and Josh Liefeld.

Team advisors are Barbara Leen and Glenn Elliot, who started and led the math team program for 16 years and will be retiring at the end of the school year.
