Former astronaut and retired Maj. Gen. Charles Bolden, Jr. visited the Coast Guard Academy March 27 as the 24th Hedrick Fellow, an annual program that brings renowned leaders to the academy to visit with cadets and discuss their experiences.

He highlighted his time working with academy graduates, including astronauts Cmdr. Bruce Melnick and Capt. Dan Burbank and NASA fellows Capt. Holly Harrison and Lt. Cmdr. LaShanda Holmes.

“The thing I love about the Coast Guard Academy, and one of the reasons I’m one of your biggest recruiters, is because you train every single day for what you do every single day when you get out into the fleet. You train to serve,” Bolden said during his presentation.
