Mystic Memorial Day parade slated for Monday
Mystic — The Hugo A. Simonelli VFW Post 3263 will host its traditional Mystic Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 27, at 2 p.m., rain or shine.
The parade will start at Bank Square in downtown Mystic and travel along Route 1 to the Mystic VFW post.
The parade was begun by The Grand Army of the Republic in the late 1870s. When the organization's ranks declined, it was taken over by The American Legion's Richard Morgan Post and then the Hugo A. Simonelli Post 3263.
The Mystic VFW said it is strapped for funding and is accepting donations to help defray the cost of the event. Checks can be sent to Mystic VFW, 60 Stonington Road, Mystic, CT 06355.
